Dr Mehrdad Emami is an academic cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist. He is a staff specialist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Adelaide. Mehrdad is interested in all aspects of cardiology, with a particular interest in cardiac arrhythmias.
He undertook physician training at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital and The Prince Charles Hospital in Queensland, completing his advanced cardiology training at The Prince Charles Hospital in 2014. He then completed a two-year advanced fellowship in clinical cardiac electrophysiology and pacing at John Hunter Hospital in New South Wales, before joining the Centre for Heart Rhythm Disorders at the University of Adelaide and the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
Mehrdad holds a PhD from the University of Adelaide, awarded with the Dean's Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence. He has spent four years researching new catheter ablation technologies — including pulsed field ablation — in both Australia and the United States.
He implants pacemakers, leadless pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation devices, and performs electrophysiology studies and catheter ablation. Mehrdad holds appointments at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Ashford Hospital and Calvary Adelaide Hospital.
